INVERSNECKY CAFE

Welcome to The Inversnecky Cafe web page.

We are a small family owned cafe on the seafront at Aberdeen.

We specialize in breakfasts and good coffee, but also serve main meals and ice creams to sit in or take away.

At this time we do not offer a delivery service as we feel our food is not suitable for that and needs to be enjoyed fresh and hot!

Everything is cooked to order to ensure it is delivered piping hot to your table.

Please use the "pop out" button to teh left to see our menus or contact us via the links below. We regret that we are unable to offer a table booking service but usually manage to seat people quite quickly.

History of Inversnecky

The original of the name "Inversnecky" is not yet lost to the mists of time but can be traced back to the comedian Harry Gordon.
In the 1920s and 30s, harry was a very popular entertainer drawing crowds to his comedy and variety shows which he toured across the North of Scotland but based himself in Aberdeen.
The Variety Theatre that hosted Harry's summer shows was next door to us and he became a great friend of my Grandfather (Peter Vicca).
When my grandfather toook over from his father (in about 1927) he asked Harry if he could use the name as at that time everyone knew where Inversnecky wasn't...
Since that time, we have been known as the Inversnecky Cafe but precious few people can now recall the source of the name.
Inverness has since also been referred to as Inversnecky or 'Snecky. This is from the same source, we assume, but have been unable to confirm this. Desite some research, we have been unable to find anyone who can recall it being called Inversnecky prior to the early 1970s.As this is well past the time of Harry Gordon, we think it fair to assume the source is the same. of course, Harry was a comedian and showman, it would not have been unusual for him to have stolen the name from there in the first place!

In 2014 we purchased a sandwich board to sit outside the cafe displaying our various daily specials. Then Martin got his hands on it. The resulting messages he claims to be "amusing" and "funny". We leave it up to you to decide for yourself.
